4 Celebrities You Didn’t Know Were Veterans
In honor of Veterans Day, I thought I'd broach a related topic -celebrities who've served in the armed forces.
We're all so appreciative of our veterans and all they've done for us. But sometimes, they don't want to speak up and toot their own horn. So maybe if we talk about some famous people you didn't know were veterans, all our veterans will get the due thanks they deserve (but might not ask for).
Willie Nelson was in the Air Force.
He enlisted in 1950 and wanted to be a pilot. But he was medically discharged nine months later because of a bad back.
George Carlin started working as a radio DJ while he was in the Air Force.
He was stationed in Louisiana, and started working as a DJ for KJOE in Shreveport. He also got court-martialed three times in three years, including once for getting drunk and telling off his commanding officer . . . and once for smoking a joint. Sounds like George, alright!
Pat Sajak served in Vietnam.
But he didn't see much action . . . he was a DJ on Armed Forces Radio. Hey, radio is important, too! Sometimes I bet the radio was a good comfort to the guys overseas.
Bea Arthur from "The Golden Girls" was in the Marines during World War Two.
She was a truck driver and typist in the Women's Reserve from 1943 to 1945. I always knew she was a badass. Now I have confirmation!
Who are some of your favorite veterans? Do you have plans to attend a Veterans Day celebration?
Thankfully yours,
Behka
