Can’t Afford a Diamond for Valentine’s? How About a Roach?
Why go to a jeweler or go out to dinner when you can give your loved one a Gromphadorhina portentosa?
This year, for Valentine's Day, the Bronx Zoo says the perfect gift for your loved one is a Madagascar hissing cockroach.
The zoo is offering lovers a chance to Name a Roach for Valentine’s Day, declaring;
“It's the best way to let your loved ones, or not-so-loved ones, know how you feel this holiday.”
For $10, you can name one of the zoo's Madagascar hissing cockroaches in your loved one's honor, and the zoo will send a digital certificate with the roach's name for your honey to cherish for years to come.
You can also add chocolates or a plush cockroach toy to your gift for $35, or both for $50.
National Geographic says that the Madagascar hissing cockroach is two to three inches long and has a life span of up to five years.It hisses by exhaling air through its breathing holes.
A small colony can eat a large carrot in a single day. No word on how long it'd take them to eat that box of chocolates.
Not bad for $10.
The Wildlife Conservation Society is advertising the program with one of the massive creepy crawlies using Tind.. -- er, make that Wilder -- to find a mate.
Hissingly yours,
