Well, kids, a lot of the schools in our area are gearing up for Graduations. I myself am a 1997 graduate of Smith Cotton, back when the old building was still the High School.

I was one of those "club nerds" in school. I was the VP of the Art Club and the Science Club aka the Geoexplorers. I was a teacher's assistant for the Symphonic Band and I travelled with the Marching band doing something with a flag, it was a group of us. I was the treasurer of the Drama Club and the Thespian Society, and I was in the French Club, as well as the school Orchestra, so you can pretty much imagine that I was fundraising all year long.

So, when Graduation came, I had a lot of little events to attend, as you or your family can also imagine. I remember we had a Baccalaureate ceremony, although I can't recall what happened in it. I just remember it was a great excuse to get out of class that day.

For the actual last day of school, I remember that my friend Jillean and our other friend Dan went to my house and I tried to dye my hair purple for when we walked in the ceremony.

Didn't really work, though, 'cause my hair is naturally kind of dark anyway so it didn't show up. But we tried. I remember very little from the actual graduation ceremony. I know it was held in the Matthewson Exhibition Center.....

But that's about it. I also remember that my class ring felt very expensive, and my senior key around my neck was important. I had a letter jacket, and the little pins that you put on it and little medals for your things you got like getting a good rating at the state music competitions.

I don't know why I don't recall alot of those events too clearly, but hopefully the class of 2012 will. You can help them if you like by attending a Pancake Breakfast at Applebee's this weekend. They're going to be raising funds for Project Graduation from 8 am to 10 am and it's only $5 per ticket. You can get those tickets at the door and they'll accept donations, too.

Educationally yours,
Behka
