More Ways To Save On Gas
So I have been running my little SUV on the E for a couple of days. It's fine; I basically only drive from work to home so it's maybe four minutes every day. But I don't like going to the pump very much, I'll be honest.
It's not that I'm super cheap, but everybody wants to save money. You've probably heard a million tricks on how to save money on gas . . . like making sure your tires have enough air in them, which can improve your gas mileage by more than 3%.
But "Popular Mechanics" put out a list with some pretty good tips. Here are the top three you might not be doing.
#1.) String Your Errands Together So the Engine Stays Warm. Your engine isn't as efficient when it's warming up, which is why it's better to do a bunch of stuff back-to-back so it doesn't have time to cool down.
#2.) Avoid Gas with an "E15" Rating. It means it's up to 15% ethanol, which has about 30% less energy than gasoline does.
Pretty much ALL gas has SOME ethanol in it now, but the lower the E-rating is the better. It should say the rating somewhere on the pump.
#3.) Get the Junk Out of Your Trunk. Everyone knows about this one, but people still don't do it. Obviously, if you're lugging around a bunch of stuff you don't have to . . . like golf clubs . . . the extra weight hurts your gas mileage.
It's nothing CRAZY, but an extra 50 pounds in your car reduces your gas mileage by about 1%.
What kind of things do you do to save money on gas? Boyfriendo has a hybrid car, and that helps a lot. What would you recommend?
Savingly yours,
