Jem and the Holograms

To mark Trans Week of Visibility, ComicsAlliance has put together a list of great comics for younger readers featuring transgender or nonbinary characters. These are comics that are suitable for a wide range of ages, and come from a wide array of genres, from fantasy to electro-pop to superheroes to slice-of-life --- so there should be something for everyone. Jem and the Holograms, the popular comic based on the 1980s cartoon about rock stars, romance, and rivalry, has been closely associated with the art of Sophie Campbell since she and writer Kelly Thompson first launched the book. However, Campbell left the book a couple of issues back to pursue other projects, and this week sees the debut of the new ongoing Jem artist, Meredith McClaren, bringing her own distinctive style to the Holograms' world. ComicsAlliance chatted with McClaren about her history with the series, how her work differs from Campbell's, and the best possible pet for Jem.

It was actually a pretty solid weekend at the box office for movies that weren’t brand new. If your movie was playing in its second, third, or even fourth week, you were fine. If your movie was a new release, you were in for a rough couple of days. While the The Martian, Goosebumps, and more showcased impressive legs, a huge batch of other movies faltered this weekend. At least five major releases fell flat on their faces.
