An Old Sedalia Favorite Is Still Alive And Well…..In Texas
You guys, I admittedly am not on the social medias as much as many of you. I mean, sure, I'm on them for work. And sure, I'll post on my personal page about music sometimes, but on the whole once I'm done with what I've got to do for work, I'm done. I'm on YouTube or Not Always Right before I'm on Facebook or Twitter again. So imagine my surprise and just joy when I happened to catch the right message at the right time!

I'm not that hard to find on the socials. In fact, one of our listeners, Melissa, has found me there a couple of times. Mostly just small stuff, like sending me a quick note for a song request or birthday wish or a shoutout for her shift at Stanley Black and Decker. I welcome it! And I especially welcome that she messaged me to remind me of a phenomenon long gone here in Sedalia that a lot of us miss... that is alive and well in the Lone Star State.
Went to Texas over the weekend and my main end goal was GRIFFS!!! Went to Dallas just to bring back some old memories of their delicious greasy burgers!!
Oh man, you guys know that we all remember Griffs. Well, everyone who was born before maybe.... 1989 remembers Griffs. It was right by what was the High School at the time. And while I wasn't allowed during my HS years to leave at lunch and go over there, I heard many a tale of people who did, or who stopped by after school. My biggest memories of the place include stopping off with my Grandma, and her cursing how long the drive-thru out would take. And I had heard there was another one out there, but I hadn't seen it in a hot minute, and wasn't sure if it was still kicking. But according to Melissa, it sure is! She even took pictures!
I mean, even the BUILDING looks the same as the old one. If you're too young to remember, or a relative newbie to Sedalia, the old Griff's is where Yummy's Donuts is today. They didn't change the outside of the building much (I heard they liked the nostalgia of it), so you can pretty much see it as it was.
I did a little research and found out that they started in Kansas City but eventually moved to Texas, and still have locations open in Bossier City, Ruston and Shreveport, Louisiana; Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Dallas, Fort Worth, Haltom City, Garland, Irving, Mesquite, and San Antonio, Texas. So I guess we need to make a road trip not just to Dallas, but a few other places in the south!
What are some of your favorite memories of Griffs (Does anybody remember seeing the Zippy the Pinhead comics about it)? What was your favorite food to get there? Did you ever work there? Tell me all about it!
Burgeringly yours,
Behka
