Early Morning Fire Damages Home on West Market Street in Warrensburg
The Warrensburg Fire Department is reminding residents to check their smoke alarms after an early morning blaze at a home in the 700 block of West Market Street.
The fire has been ruled unintentional and fire officials believe the fire started due to an electrical malfunction.
Residents on West Market Street woke up to lights and sirens as the Warrensburg Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire in the 700 block of West Market Street just after 6:00 AM CST this morning, Monday, January 10.
Upon arrival fire crews found fire on the exterior of the home and in the attic space and brought the fire under control by 6:26 AM CST.
The fire has been ruled unintentional and fire officials believe the fire started due to an electrical malfunction. Assisting the Warrensburg Fire Department was Warrensburg Police, Johnson County Ambulance District, and Evergy.
No injuries were reported and the last units left the scene just after 8:00 AM CST.
In light of this morning's fire, and citing recent tragic residential fires in Philadelphia and New York City, the Warrensburg Fire Department is asking residents to check their smoke alarms.
According to the New York Times, 19 people, including nine children, died in the Bronx after an apartment fire started in a duplex apartment on the second and third floor of the building that was likely caused by a malfunctioning space heater. In Philadelphia, 12 people, including eight children, died in a row house fire. No cause has been determined in that fire. (Links to the stories are above.)
The Warrensburg Fire Department asks those Warrensburg residents who need assistance with smoke alarms to call the Warrensburg Fire Department at 660-747-9136.
