Congratulations to Old Barney's Tavern On The Square on the courthouse square and Warrensburg. They're being endorsed and featured on a website called America's Best Restaurants. The best part is that their ten-minute feature on the restaurant sold me.

I'm a little embarrassed to admit this, but I never gave Old Barney's the time of day for dinner. When we discussed it recently, I poo-pooed the idea to my girlfriend, Stacey. It's not that I ever heard bad things about it. I may have even seen that it won the best burger in Best of the Burg. Yet, with Fitters and Heroes on Pine Street. Players on the other side of town. And Cancun as my go-to Mexican joint. It just isn't a place I thought about for food.

I did pop into Old Barney's late one afternoon to enjoy two or three cocktails at a Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce mixer and had a good time. I enjoyed the atmosphere and company; it seemed like a fun joint. After seeing what America's Best Restaurants have to say about the Old Barney's, I'll be there. Here's the 10-minute video they did about the restaurant, and it's worth watching:

My picky eating habits are part of my reluctance to try new or new-to-me places. When I like something, I like it, and it's hard for me to try something else or go somewhere else. So yes, I'll keep returning to the two or three places I enjoy and get the same thing repeatedly.

Yet, oh my goodness. The Barney Bowl, with hand-breaded chicken, mashed potatoes, corn, cheese and gravy. Yes, please. I bet a plate of that hand-breaded chicken with nothing else would be delicious. I also found out they cook their burgers on a flat top. If you've read any of my blogs about food, you know that flame-kissed meat isn't my preference. So that's a good thing!

So yes, I need to head home, apologize to my girlfriend for poo-pooing Old Barney's, and take her there for dinner. You can learn more about America's Best Restaurants and ABR videos here.

One last question: the Barney Bowl or the Burger? It's going to be a tough choice.
