Additional Information

Bothwell Regional Health Center will offer Community CPR/AED and First Aid courses on Saturday, Dec. 14 in the Bothwell Education Center, 600 E. 14th Street.

The CPR/AED class is from 8 a.m., to 12:30 p.m. The course teaches participants how to provide CPR to an adult, child or infant and how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) for adults and children. An AED is a small, lightweight device that allows individuals and first responders to treat sudden cardiac arrest by delivering a shock to the victim’s chest, ideally restarting their heart.

People may also sign up for a First Aid course for adults and children from 12:30 to 3:30 pm. Typical participants in these classes include corporate and retail employees, security, law enforcement, health and fitness staff, parents and grandparents. Special classes can be arranged for large groups.

According to the American Heart Association, more than 350,000 people experience out-of-hospital cardiac arrests in the United States and more than 100,000 occur outside the home. A cardiac arrest victim’s chance of survival can double or triple when CPR is performed correctly and used with an AED.

The fee for each class is $45 or $60 for both classes. Registration is due by Dec. 4, and payment is required with registration. For more information or to register, contact Bothwell Education Center at classes@brhc.org or call (660) 827-9516.
