Coffee Benefits and How To Get A Free Cup On National Coffee Day!
Sunday, September 29, is National Coffee Day. Did you know there are some great benefits to being a coffee drinker? You can also get a free cup of Joe on National Coffee Day. Keep reading for all the details.
First, the case for healthy coffee is solid, especially for women. Hopkins Medicine writes, "Study after study indicates you could be getting more from your favorite morning beverage than you thought: Coffee is chock full of substances that may help guard against conditions more common in women, including Alzheimer’s disease and heart disease."
That's good news. While everyone focuses on coffee's caffeine content, experts from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine say the beverage's antioxidants and other substances can reduce internal inflammation and protect against disease.
They go on to specifically say that research indicates coffee drinkers are less likely to die from coronary heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and kidney disease. By the way, Johns Hopkins says these are the leading causes of death in women.
They also say coffee can help your body process glucose better, that those who drink one to two cups a day may ward off heart failure, and that the caffeine in coffee is linked to a lower chance of developing Parkinson's disease. For those with Parkinson's, it can help control their movements.
Specifically for women, regular or decaf coffee can help prevent colon cancer. Women who drink coffee, the caffeinated kind, can help ward off Alzheimer's disease and lower stroke risk.
Like any health professional, Hopkins Medicine warns what you add to your coffee can impact how healthy it is for you. They suggest skipping the cream and sugar and adding up to two tablespoons of milk, milk substitute, or half and half and string in a quarter teaspoon of Vanilla extract, Cardamom, Cinamon, or Cocoa powder.
