Mt. Hoy Snow Tubing at Blackwell Forest Preserve

For the longest snow tubing experience in central Illinois, head to Mt. Hoy. The 800-foot tubing hill is open on select dates and school holidays, and tube rentals are just $10. With all-day access, you can ride the hill as much as you want.

The Snow Park at Alpine Hills

Alpine Hills in Rockford, Illinois, is a year-round destination, offering hiking trails in summer and snow trails in winter. This family-friendly park is a winter favorite, so if you’re planning to visit, it’s recommended to make a reservation at least two weeks in advance, a good sign of how popular it is!

Goodenow Grove Nature Preserve

For a truly gigantic snow hill, Goodenow Grove is hard to beat. Bring your sled or tube and get ready for a thrill. The hill opens after December 1, but according to wapititravel.com, it’s definitely not for the faint of heart.

I really hope that one day we’ll see something similar closer to home in the Tri-State area. While there are local spots for sledding and tubing, nothing matches the extreme fun of the places listed above.
