The state of Missouri has seen a net gain of people moving to the Show-Me state. With a total increase of 90,612 people over the last five years.

The majority of counties in Missouri saw growth with 76 on the plus side and 39 counties losing numbers. While the overall numbers are good for Missouri, the county growth seems concentrated in a couple areas.

The Top five counties for population growth in Missouri since 2020:

Lincoln County – The eastern Missouri county saw an increase of 6,311, going from 59,577 to 65,888 for an increase of 10.6% mainly around Troy.

Warren County – Just south of Lincoln County and west of St. Charles County increased from 35,535 to 38,478 for an increase of 2,943. An increase of 8.3%. making it clear many from St. Louis City are moving north and west in the metroplex.

Christian County – South of Springfield and north of Branson this area seems ripe for growth, increasing by 7,199 from 88,846 to 96,045 with Nixa and Fremont Hills handling most of that 8.1% growth.

Webster County – East of Springfield is Webster County that saw its population grow from 39,804 to 42,041, for a bump of 2,957 -or 7.6%.

Wright County – Due east of Webster County is Wright County the fifth fastest growing county in Missouri, going from 18,187 to 19,505. That 1,318 increase equals 7.2%

Along I-70 west from St. Louis and St. Charles County, and on Missouri 61 north of St. Charles County saw the biggest gains in Missouri.

Then around the Springfield area with Christian, Webster and Wright counties gaining  numbers it’s clear St. Louis metro and Springfield still have drawing power. While the population of St. Louis itself went down again (this time by over 7 percent), Greene County which contains Springfield didn’t see a dip. Green County saw a 3% increase itself.
