When you consider the fact that inflation is causing many Missouri families to pinch every penny, you'd think that discount stores like Family Dollar would flourish. Sadly, you'd be incorrect as new data shows that Missouri is losing Family Dollar stores more than nearly any other state.

According to new data just shared recently by Cheapism, Missouri is among the states that have lost the highest percentage of Family Dollar stores over the past year. Missouri is tied for 5th in America for the highest percentage of Family Dollar stores closed at 7.1%. It's important to note that Family Dollar still maintains a very large footprint in the state as the Family Dollar store locator shows there are still 105 locations in Missouri.

Why has Family Dollar closed stores in Missouri and other places?

There's no one single reason, but the low-income demographic that shops at Family Dollar the most often has been hit hard by inflation and reduced government benefits like SNAP. There are some locations that were hurt by high theft rates which contributed to the decision to close some stores. The good news is I haven't seen any new Family Dollar store closure announcements in Missouri recently. Let's hope that they and the communities and people they serve will be able to hang in there.
