I think most people would consider helping a family find closure more than enough reason to come forward if they have information about an unsolved crime. There are 5 cold cases in Illinois that now are offering additional motivation with cash rewards on offer for those who can help them solve these hideous crimes.

CARMEN CHARNECO - $5,000.00 Reward

It was July 24, 1993 when Carmen Charneco was found murdered near Elgin, Illinois on I-90. The Illinois State Police are looking for a Hispanic male named Edwin Acevedo Rodriguez who is 52 years old. He is currently wanted for questioning regarding the death of Carmen Charneco and authorities warn he is to be considered armed and dangerous as he has been identified as a member of the street gang “Maniac Latin Disciples."

DALTON MESARCHIK - $50,000.00 Reward

Dalton Mesarchik was 7 years old on March 26, 2003 when he disappeared from his front yard. His body was found the following day in the Vermillion River. Illinois State Police have lots of evidence and believe Dalton's life was taken with a hammer. There is even a task force focusing on solving Dalton's murder. SHERRY LEWIS - $10,000.00 Reward

Sherry Lewis was a realtor in Decatur who had a home showing appointment on August 5, 1994. Her body was found later in that home that was for sale she was scheduled to show. The family is offering the reward for the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible for taking her life.

JEREMY "CHAPPY" CHAPPELEAR - $3,000.00 Reward

Early in the morning of April 25, 1998, the body of Jeremy "Chappy" Chappelear was found by fishermen near Coffeen Lake. Authorities believe he may have been struck by a vehicle and left for dead. He may have been walking home from a party when he was killed, but police have yet to identify the person or the vehicle responsible.

CAROL ROFSTAD - $1,000.00 Reward

Carol Rofstad was found with fatal head injuries on December 23, 1975 outside of her sorority house at Illinois State University. There were two white males, one being seen carrying a club near the scene of the crime, but two girls inside the sorority house say they saw or heard nothing. Police are still seeking the identify of the two male suspects seen near the sorority house where Carol was found.
