A vehicle crash is never a good thing, but if you live in Missouri, new data shows it will cost you more than nearly any other place if you're the driver who's at fault.

I saw a recent share about the states where car crashes are the most costly shared by Cheapism. I believe their ranking was based on a study from Lending Tree that took into account the repair costs of accidents and also how those crashes affected a rise in insurance premiums for those who were found to be at-fault. I was surprised to see Missouri among the top 10 states where crashes caused by you are more likely to include the biggest repair costs and also a huge jump in what insurance will cost you.

They said that Missouri drivers face "an average insurance premium increase of just over 50% after being involved in an at-fault accident". If a Missouri driver was accustomed to paying a yearly insurance cost of $2,550, they would now pay $3,840 annually which means a jump of over $100 per month for insurance costs. Ouch. Think about paying $3,850 over three years for vehicle insurance. No thank you.

I have been in several car accidents in my lifetime, but have never been at fault. That's not bragging, by the way. I'm thankful that the accidents I have been a part of have not driven up my car insurance and no one has ever been seriously hurt. I have many friends and family that have unfortunately lived through that tragedy and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. The fact that Missouri insurance costs go up just makes a bad situation even worse.
