I have nothing against national restaurant chains and the food they offer, but there's something special about food places that were started by families using their own recipes. That's why a family-owned Mexican restaurant in Missouri was just named the best in the state.

This is Taqueria Durango (St. Louis area) located at 10238 Page Avenue in Overland. They were selected based on being "known for flavorful tacos, hearty burritos, and house-made sauces" according to the article and the reviews on Yelp seem to agree:

Jorge L said "The food here is exceptional, you can truly taste the quality and freshness of the ingredients. The staff was friendly and attentive throughout. This is a truly authentic Mexican restaurant and definitely a must-try."

Beth M added "My sister and I had such a great time for Taco Tuesday. We both enjoyed a large Cadillac Margarita and the Birria Tacos and they were so good. I can't wait to visit again. Our waitress Angelica was delightful."

Out of nearly 300 reviews on Yelp to this date, Taqueria Durango averages 4.1 stars out of 5 which is quite an accomplishment. While the national restaurant chains are fine, it's encouraging to see a mom and pop Mexican food place get some well-deserved recognition. Well done!
