New Model Hints at First Missouri & Illinois Snowfall in December

You know it's inevitable, but so far this season we haven't seen any indication of colder weather and/or snowfall in Missouri or Illinois. However, there is now a new computer model run that seems to at least hint that both states could (key word) see snowfall in December.

Meteorologist Travis Roberts just dropped a new video on YouTube and he discusses what's happening in the Arctic right now which will lead to weather changes for Missouri and Illinois as we approach winter. While I'd encourage you to listen to his full (and admittedly more informed) explanation of what the ice cover in the Arctic means, here's the 2nd grade version. The European computer model shows an opportunity for snow cover in Missouri and Illinois on December 12, 2024.

Keep in mind that this weather model is trying to peer a month and a half into the future and is pure speculation at this point albeit with some big time meteorological math involved.

I'd like to add what Travis Roberts said which is important to note:

No, you should not mark your calendar for December 12 for the first Missouri and Illinois snowfall. But, in general, it's not completely crazy to look at the middle of December as a POSSIBLE (not certain, but possible) time period for weather in our part of America to start looking a little more wintry.

It could snow sooner or it might snow later, but you know the winter weather will find Missouri and Illinois eventually. Perhaps this computer model is our first glimpse at that possibility.
