Underground Springfield, Missouri Home Beat an EF-4 Tornado

It's not something that everyone will love, but it's one of the most practical homes for anyone who lives in the middle of tornado alley in Missouri. It's an underground home in Springfield, Missouri and a recent video share reveals what it's like inside.

I just came across this fascinating video feature shared by Kirsten Dirksen on YouTube. As of this writing, she has over 2.15 million followers on YouTube and I can understand why with this look she shared of an underground home in Springfield, Missouri.

Part of the interesting backstory of this Springfield, Missouri underground home is that it withstood an EF-4 tornado that plowed through that neighborhood. The video description says November of 1990, but I'm pretty sure they're referring to the November 29, 1991 EF-4 twister that the National Weather Service says left "Extensive damage to homes and businesses was reported. 2 deaths and 64 injuries were directly related to the tornado". The one home that only received minimal damage was this underground place.

I can think of so many practical reasons why a home like this one in Springfield, Missouri would be epic. Think about how efficient it would be to heat and cool this home. You'd benefit from a home that doesn't absorb nearly as much heat in the summer and has very little vulnerable areas where you'd lose heat in the winter. The view they showed from the bedroom reveals that the view outside is still nice.

There's also the stealth element to this home that would be both a positive and a negative. As the homeowner mentioned in the video, it's inconspicuous which allows for very few unwanted visitors, but it's also a challenge to get packages delivered when trucks don't notice the home. No matter how you look at it, there are few homes in Missouri that are more unique than this one and it's awesome that the YouTube channel was able to get a glimpse inside to show what it's like to the rest of us.
