Two SMS Students Take Second & Third in Statewide Poster Contest

Two fifth grade students in Staci Harrison’s class at Sedalia Middle School came in second and third in a poster contest sponsored by American Water Works Association Missouri Section and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.

The contest was held in recognition and celebration of Drinking Water Week, May 3-9, and highlights the important work water professionals do to provide safe drinking water to Missouri’s residents and visitors, according to Gov. Kehoe’s office.

The second place winner was Bela Antonova ($200), and the third place winner was Elijah Kondratyuk ($100).

The first place winner was Elise Post from Clark Elementary School in Webster Groves ($300).

Prize money was provided by the American Water Works Association.

The theme for the 2026 posted contest was “Save It, Don’t Waste It!” More than 600 fifth grade students submitted entries this year.

"I think it's awesome that I had the opportunity to teach both of them this year. We focus a lot on environmental science," Harrison commented.
