Johnson County Firefighters Rescue Pets During Devastating Overnight Blaze
Three Johnson County Fire Protection District stations responded to a fire overnight at a duplex south of Warrensburg.
JCFPD says personnel were notified of a residential structure and vehicle fire in the 100 block of SW 21 Road just before 11:00 PM CDT Tuesday. On arrival, crews found one-half of the duplex and a vehicle outside the structure engulfed in flames.
Occupants of the residence escaped uninjured and Johnson County Fire Protection District firefighters rescued two family pets from inside the duplex.
JCFPD reports that one unit of the duplex was severely damaged and the attached unit received smoke damage. The vehicle involved in the fire is a total loss.
A fire investigation determined the fire originated outside of the structure near an electrical outlet and extension cord. The cause of the fire has been determined to be accidental.
