Two or three years ago, Mike mentioned this excellent sandwich shop with a surfer vibe he stopped into in Lee's Summit. If I remember correctly, he loved the restaurant's food and decor. Well, this sandwich shop has made Vine Pair's highest-rated deli list.

I'm talking about Longboards Wraps & Bowls, which has seven Kansas City locations. The closest to us here in West Central Missouri, and the one Mike visited, was the Lee's Summit location on Missouri 291.

According to the Kansas City Star, Gilbert Macapagal, one of Longboards' founders, moved from the Philippines to California when he was 16. He's the founder credited with coming up with the concept on the Company's website.

Gilbert and his family grew up in the Pacific, and he brought the memories and experiences with him to the Midwest. After working for some of the most interesting chefs in Kansas City, he wanted to create a fusion where island style and island flavors meet Kansas City's food culture. That, in short, is what Longboards is all about.

Longboards offers a variety of hot and cool wraps, bowls, and salads. Items on the menu include the Cabo Chicken, Cabo Steak, and the Wow! Kung Pao. They also offer the Hot Turkey and the 5-Alarm Beef, among others. These items are available as grilled wraps and bowls.

They've also got you covered if you're more of a salad person or want a deli-style wrap served cold. The menu is quite extensive, so if you like what you're reading, you should look at their menu!

What caught Vine Pair's attention and put them on their "Highest-Rated Deli In Major U.S. Cities" list? Yelp reviews. Vine Pair's list was generated by looking at the delis that received the highest scores on Yelp from delis with over 400 reviews.

The Lee's Summit location of Longboards has a four-star overall rating on its Yelp page. Here's what Yelp's users are saying:

Susan V, from Lee's Summit writes, "Always yummy. We go there a lot. My favorite is the Mr. Miagi bowl. Can't say enough great things about this place. Really cute seating inside. Clean and cool and friendly staff. Great wraps and bowls. Yummmmmmmmm."

Kaiya A, from Raytown says, "There are few places that really blow me away but this is one of them! The interior of the restaurant is so inviting and has lots of décor. As far as the food goes, my wrap was so flavorful and was pressed for just long enough to get my food hot but not scalding. The employees were all upbeat and made sur to answer any questions I had. I can not wait to come back here!"

Now, that doesn't mean everyone's experience was perfect. One person got a bowl, and Longboards forgot the side item. The reviewer said the rice was cold and stuck together. Another reviewer complained about eggshells in their boxer bowl and chewy chicken. Yet, these reviews aren't the norm on Yelp for Longboards.

Honestly, while I love the concept of Longboards, I have yet to try it. One, I don't get into the city that much. And secondly and more importantly, my finicky food tastes made me hesitant to try it. That said, I'm trying to be open to new things, and after looking at the menu, I think I'd like to try a couple of things. I might have to pop in for a grilled wrap the next time I'm heading towards the city.

Longboards are in Overland Park, South Overland Park, Kansas City, Liberty, Mission, Lee's Summit, and St. Joseph.

The Lee's Summit location is at 506M SE MO 291 HWY, Lee's Summit, 64063. The hours at all locations are Monday through Friday, 11:00 AM to 8:30 PM, Saturday, 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and Sunday, 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
