No one knew for sure how Marvel’s ABC Inhumans would translate from page to screen, let alone on a more TV-friendly budget, and our first look is … not great, Bob. Check out Black Bolt, Medusa and the rest, along with new details on production.

Entertainment Weekly revealed a first photo of the Hawaii-set production, featuring Anson Mount as King Black Bolt, Game of Thrones star Iwan Rheon as his brother Maximus, Serinda Swan as Queen Medusa, Ken Leung as advisor Karnak, Isabelle Cornish as Medusa’s sister Crystal and Eme Ikwuakor as Gorgon.

Among the details gleamed from the interview with Scott Buck, we know the Inhuman city of Attilan won’t be on Earth, and Triton will not be a motion-capture character. The series also indeed takes place in the same MCU as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but the two series won’t have any easily-identifiable crossover just yet.

Further cast includes Mike Moh as Triton, Sonya Balmores as Auran, and Ellen Woglom as an undisclosed human character. Also, yes, they’re having trouble pulling off Medusa’s hair. So reads a reported synopsis for the new series:

After the Royal Family of Inhumans is splintered by a military coup, they barely escape to Hawaii where their surprising interactions with the lush world and humanity around them may prove to not only save them, but Earth itself.

Elsewhere of Marvel’s The Inhumans, we know that Iron Fist alum Scott Buck will showrun the series for Marvel and ABC. Roel Reine has signed on to direct the first two episodes, while Marvel has not clarified what, if any relationship The Inhumans will have to other MCU TV series.

Stay tuned for more on Marvel and ABC’s The Inhumans as we get closer to the IMAX premiere in September.
