Missouri High School Football: Hannibal at Fulton
The Hannibal Pirates dock in Fulton Friday night expecting to handle their quarry in the Hornets.
Hannibal is coming off a 35-29 loss to Troy Buchanan last week and has fallen to 1-2. They are averaging 35 points per game but allowing 24 points per game. Look for the Pirates to improve both of those numbers this week. Fulton is 0-3 this fall and has averaged just 9 points scored per game and have allowed 28 points per game.
Not sure if the Pirates can keep the Hornets off the scoreboard, but they have a chance if they can force turnovers. Every time Fulton has fumbled this season they haven’t recovered the ball. They are mistake prone and Hannibal will be looking to strip the ball and pickoff Hornets junior quarterback Jaden Galbreath. Hannibal will have to account for senior tight end Qailen Chambers and force Galbreath to look at other options.
The Pirate offense will score. Waylon Anders and Mike Ferriera will lead the way, but if things are going well for Hannibal and head coach Jeff Gschwender look for several players to get touches on offense.
Fulton hasn’t defeated Hannibal on the football field since 2007. This will be the last time the Pirates travel to Fulton as the Hornets are switching conferences after next season.
The goal: A dominant win to solidify a good start to the middle portion of the season. The Pirate defense wants to embrace an extra level of attitude and malice.
Both of these are attainable Friday night in Fulton.
