A Mountain Grove man drowned in the Gasconade River on Thursday morning in Wright County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that 33-year-old Preston J. Jarrett of Mountain Grove, was attempting to retrieve an item from the center of the river around 11:30 a.m., about a quarter mile west of Highway E, when Jarrett went under the water and never resurfaced.

Jarrett's body was eventually located by the MSHP Dive Team and pronounced deceased at 11:26 a.m., on Friday, by Wright County Coroner Ben Hurtt. The body was taken to Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home in Mountain Grove.

Conservation Agent J. Emery and Wright County Deputies assisted the 15 Troopers on scene.
