‘Summer Road Trip’ Creates Interesting Tour With Yacht Rock Too
One of the most iconic bands from the 70s has paired up with one of the most successful pop bands from the last 25 years to create the "Summer Road Trip 2024" tour. To spice it up, they're bringing the definitive yacht rock cover band out on the road with them.
That iconic band from the 70s is REO Speedwagon, hitting the road with Train this summer. At first glance, it seems like an odd tour lineup. Throw in a yacht rock cover band and it seems a little more odd. Or perhaps it makes perfect sense.
Both REO Speedwagon and Train have enjoyed wide-ranging success over the years. More importantly, in my mind, both musical acts tend to share some of the same DNA. Both acts have had a lot of success on the radio and selling a lot of music. Both acts tended to straddle both the rock side of the business, especially earlier in their careers but wrote some monster pop hits.
Mostly, if you're an REO Speedwagon fan, there's probably a good chance you'll like Train and vice versa. That's assuming you aren't aware of both bands and don't like them both already, as I do.
There's just something about "Can't Fight That Feeling", "Time For Me To Fly" and "Take It On The Run" that seems like it fits well with "Hey, Soul Sister", "Calling All Angels", or "Drive By".
In my mind, it's a fun show jam-packed with hits. Add in Yacht Rock Review opening the show with hits from the golden era of soft-rock while you toss down a couple of cocktails, yeah it sounds like this could be one of the more fun shows of the summer.
The "Summer Road Trip Tour" kicks off at the iconic Whisky a Go Go in Los Angeles on Thursday, February 1. In Missouri, you can catch the "Summer Road Trip Tour" with the full lineup in St. Louis. You can also catch the tour with the full lineup in Chicago.
In St. Louis, the tour will play Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre on Tuesday, July 16, which is the only Missouri show to feature both REO Speedwagon and Train. They will play Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre in the Chicago suburbs the Friday before, July 13.
Train is also playing in Kansas City at the Starlight Theatre on Wednesday, July 17, however, REO Speedwagon IS NOT on the bill for this show, which is a definite bummer if you ask me.
Presale tickets go on sale Wednesday, January 31, and tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, February 2, at 10:00 AM CST for all three dates of the tour. Get tickets for the St. Louis show here, the Chicago show here, and the KC show featuring ONLY TRAIN here.
