SFCC Adds Seven To Softball
The State Fair Community College (SFCC) softball season is scheduled to begin in February; however, Lady Roadrunners Softball Head Coach Lyndsey Talbot has already begun to work on her 2021-2022 recruiting class.
Talbot recently announced the addition of seven student-athletes who have all signed their National Letters of Intent to attend SFCC and play softball next fall.
Angelina Curtis is an outfielder at Skyline High School where she plays for Coach Shawna Bybee.
“Angelina is a multi-sport athlete with pretty good speed,” said Talbot. “Angelina is an athlete who has always played multiple sports, so I am excited to watch her develop when she can focus on a single sport - softball. Skyline has always been a good program. I love getting kids from good programs.”
Lauren Strange is an infielder/outfielder from Blair Oaks High School, where she played under Head Coach Sharon Buschjost.
“Blair Oaks has made multiple state appearances throughout Lauren’s career,” said Talbot. “She is part of the Bombers (a travel softball organization) and coming from a high school team like Blair Oaks, I know she has been well coached.”
Kalyn Smith is a catcher/utility player who played at Russellville High School for Head Coach Lucas Branson.
“Kalyn is a big-time team player,” said Talbot. “She is extremely versatile and plays wherever her team needs her to play. She is a catcher but, her high school needed a pitcher, so she pitched all season. She pitched against the eventual state champion Fr. Tolton Catholic High School and took them into extra innings. She is a good athlete with tremendous potential. She is playing for the Capital City Crush this summer.”
Makinzi Harris is a catcher at Hume High School for Head Coach Kayla Gander.
“Makinzi played in the Top Gun organization, which is where I found her and her sister,” said Talbot. “She is hard-working and team-oriented. I am excited to have her behind the plate. She is the type of recruit that I like to go after.”
Kennidi Harris, the twin sister to Makinzi, is a pitcher at Hume High School, who will also be joining the Lady Roadrunners recruiting class.
“Kennidi also played in the Top Gun organization,” said Talbot. “She is a crafty pitcher with a lot of talent. She is hard to rattle in the circle, which is huge. Watching the connection that Makinzi and Kennidi have is cool. They both are hard-working and respectful kids. It is neat to watch them work together as a pitcher and a catcher.”
Alexis Hughes is a pitcher/first baseman who played at Odessa High School for Head Coach Randy Florence.
“Alexis had a very strong senior season,” said Talbot. “Odessa made the state tournament for the first time in a while. She plays for the Kansas Classics Fastpitch organization. Alexis is long, lanky pitcher who continues to develop.”
Katie Kester is a utility player at East Newton High School for Head Coach Johnica Jones.
“Katie can play anywhere on the field,” said Talbot. “She has a little pop in her bat. We’ll have to see where she will fit best for us.”
Coach Talbot is excited about what this group will bring to the team.
“They are a good group of kids, who I am excited to get on campus and watch them work together,” said Talbot. “Their versatility will help us a lot, as so many of them can play multiple positions.”
