So, gentle reader, let me tell you a story.  Just  this past Thursday, Boyfriendo and I went out to run some errands after work. We had to go to Bichsel's and get a ring I had repaired, get a few little bits from Bing's, and get a new garbage can from Lowe's.  On the way home, we forgot tortilla chips, so we turned around and planned to go to Save A Lot, since it was the closest store to where we were.  So we're on that little street next to Lucky Chinese, and we're going to turn right.  The guy in front of us was trying to turn left.  At 3:00 p.m.

I think you know what happened.

Every time the guy would not turn whenever there was an opening, Boyfriendo would start grousing.  There was even a point where the train came in, and both sides of traffic stopped.  He could not understand why this guy wouldn't at least turn into the turn lane and then merge.   Then the honking started.

When we got to the store, I commented something about his road rage issues.  He said, "What road rage issues?"   Now I understand he was annoyed, and it was somewhat justified, but he was hollering at this guy.  The guy ended up giving him the finger.  I think that moves into the ol' "RR" territory.   But he doesn't think so.  Here's my theory on why ROAD RAGE is still common and no one is in any huge hurry to calm themselves down.  It's because almost ALL OF US are in denial, not just Boyfriendo.

I looked it up on the internet (which NEVER lies).  According to a new survey, 83% of people say they don't think of themselves as having road rage.  BUT . . . the survey also found that 85% of people actually DO show at least some signs of road rage.  That's a GARGANTUAN disconnect.

Here are a few other findings from the survey . . .

--47% of people say BMW drivers are most likely to have road rage.

--45% of people say ELDERLY DRIVERS are their biggest source of anger when they're driving.

--46% of people say tailgating makes them angry . . . 45% say people not using turn signals . . . and 33% say drivers on cell phones anger them.

--58% of people say they're the calmest on the road when they're not in a huge hurry to get somewhere.

So what do you think?  Do you have road rage?  Do you know someone who does, but doesn't think they do?  Who's right on that incident - me or Boyfriendo?

Ragily yours,
Behka
