Sedalia Police Reports for March 8, 2024

Thursday evening, Officers took a found property report from Anthony R. Jackson. Jackson stated he found a wallet on the ground in the 1700 block of West Broadway Boulevard, and turned it over to Police. Attempts were made to contact the owner, which were unsuccessful. The wallet and contents were placed into the evidence holding for safekeeping.

Wednesday night, Officers were dispatched to the 600 block of East 10th Street in reference to a disturbance. While en route, Dispatch advised the suspect had left the residence, and then had come back with a pistol in hand. Officers arrived to the address, and took cover as the suspect came out onto the front porch with the pistol in his hand. The suspect was holding the pistol by the muzzle. He was told to put the weapon down. The suspect then went back into the house, before coming back onto the front porch, throwing the pistol away from him onto the street. The suspect was then detained without incident. The victims stated after a grocery delivery, she had asked the suspect to throw away old meat. The suspect flew into a rage, stating he would feed the old meat to the dog. He then started yelling at the victims, knocked over a television in the living room, and started to try to break the dog’s neck. After that, the suspect left the residence, and came back with the pistol. He pointed it in the victim’s faces and told them they were going to die. The report notes the suspect had an injury to his hand, and he was transported to a hospital for a fit for confinement check. After passing, the intoxicated suspect was transported to the Pettis County Jail. Elmer Jewel Miley, 40, of Sedalia, was booked in on charges of felony Domestic Assault in the 1st Degree (two charges), felony Unlawful Use of a Weapon (two charges), Armed Criminal Action (two charges), and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm*.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to a reported theft at the Primrose Retirement Home, 3751 West 10th Street. Officers spoke with Jean Everts, as well as several staff members. A report was made of the incident for documentation purposes. No charges are being requested at this time.

Thursday morning, Officers responded to the 1300 block of South Harrison Avenue for a report of a burglary in progress. The victim reported seeing a man unknown to her standing in her bedroom doorway. Prior to Officers arriving on scene, the caller stated the male suspect was still standing in her front yard. Officers detained the suspect. The suspect claimed he was in the alley behind the victim’s residence when he heard someone talking to him. He stated he had to approach the residence and “save those people”. When he was asked who he was referring to, he was unable to elaborate. The suspect stated he had entered the unlocked house on his own, and claimed he was invited. However, the victim was asleep at the time, and the two subjects are strangers. Joseph Henry Hendrix, 45, of Sedalia, was placed under arrest. At the Pettis County Jail, staff had Hendrix remove his multiple layers of clothing, and searched him, finding a baggie containing one gram of methamphetamine. Hendrix was booked in on charges of Burglary in the 1st Degree**, Trespassing in the 1st Degree, and Concealment of a Controlled Substance into a Jail Facility. Hendrix, who the report notes was intoxicated by drugs, was given a cash or surety bond of $10,000.

Officers were dispatched to the 1900 block of South Montgomery Avenue Thursday morning in reference to a property damage report. On arrival, Officers gathered the information from both parties. Yevgeniy Ivanovich Sonnik, 36, of Sedalia, was given a citation for Destruction of Non-City Property. Austin August Boatcher, 27, of Sedalia, was cited for Dogs/Cats Shall Not Defecate on Public/Private or Right Of Way Property.

Wednesday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to the Compass Health, 1700 West Main Street, in regards to a trespassing complaint. Staff advised Officers the subject in the lobby had been arguing with staff and threatened a different staff member. The suspect had stated he would “rip that nose ring out” and that he would follow them home. He was then asked to leave. Officers encountered the suspect in the lobby, pacing and speaking loudly. The suspect stated multiple times the Office hadn’t helped him, and he didn’t want to leave. He was informed by Officers he would be arrested if he did not leave. The suspect then threw his bag and began to run north east towards the railroad tracks. He was apprehended, but kept tucking his arms under him to avoid handcuffs. The suspect was placed successfully into handcuffs, and was escorted to the Officer’s vehicle. He then threatened to kick the Officers in the face. After he was placed in the back of the vehicle, he was able to get his hands from his back to the front of his body. The Suspect freed himself of the seatbelt, and then climbed through the cage into the front driver’s seat. He then tried to manipulate the gear selector and switch gears. Officers then opened the door, grabbed the suspect out, and secured him back into the vehicle. Jacoby Indiana Gepford, 30, Homeless, was transported to the Pettis County Jail. Gepford was booked in on charges of Trespassing in the 1st Degree, Resisting Arrest, Interfering With an Arrest, Tampering With a Motor Vehicle, and Escape from Custody. Gepford was issued a $2500 cash or surety bond at the Pettis County Jail.

*Those four charges were the only charges listed in the Arrest Report. In Casenet #24PT-CR00250, the docket lists updated, with additional charges filed to Miley: felony Harassment in the 1st Degree (two counts), felony Animal Abuse in the 2nd Degree (By Torture And/Or Mutilation While Animal is Alive). The Domestic Assault charge is adapted to an Assault charge.

**24PT-CR00247 in Casenet does not list this charge (most likely because the Probable Cause statement notes the victim’s door was unlocked). The Possession of a Controlled Substance charge was changed to a felony.
