It's hard to believe it's only a couple days officially into summer and it's already 96 degrees, with temperatures to expected to reach 101 degrees Thursday and Friday.  I am supposed to Emcee a music festival in Slater Missouri on Saturday, so I haven't looked that far out to see what the weather man says it's supposed to be. I'm too scared.

When I was a kid I loved days like this.  I'd grab a cooler full of soda and snacks and a bunch of kids and I would head down to the river, to the lake, to the pool, basically wherever there was water and wherever the girls were.

But as I get older, I have a boss that expects me to work and a family who needs the paycheck, so no river or pool...just a pool of sweat.  I can't imagine what life was like without air-conditioning, I know all my parents had early on was a window unit, so a night there would be six of us piled into that room to sleep.

My grandparents had no air-conditioning.  I'm not sure how they did it, but they never complained and seemed to get by. My grandfather once told me that our generation was softer than a woman's leg. I think he meant we weren't very tough, but with him you never know.

Anyway, it's hot and it's going to be here awhile, so be safe and drink lots of water. Take care of your pets and make sure they have lot's of water.  Above all else check on your elderly friends and neighbors.
