I'm really lucky this year - I'm going to be on vacation all of next week.  So that means, no working on Thanksgiving! If you get Thanksgiving and the day after Thanksgiving off this year, don't take it as a given.Working here at the station, we sometimes just have to work on holidays.  I mean, the news doesn't stop because it's Thanksgiving.  And somebody has to keep the music on the air!   But this year, I will not be getting up early on Turkey Day.  Some of you will, though - and I definitely feel for you. Next Thursday, while everyone is with their families eating until they're too full to move, and having uncomfortable conversations about Syrian refugees, some people will be at work.  Actually . . . doesn't sound so horrible, does it?

According to a new nationwide survey, 36% of companies in the U.S. say at least some of their workers are scheduled to work those days this year.

91% of the companies who have people work Thanksgiving or the day after say they give workers either overtime pay or double pay.  MOST of those people will get some kind of bonus though.  32% will get paid time-and-a-half . . . 24% will get double pay . . . and 14% will get an extra day off.  Only 9% of companies will have people work with no extra bonus money.

So if you're at one of those companies and you're not getting paid any BONUS MONEY for working over Thanksgiving break . . . then you're getting DOUBLE SCREWED.

On the bright side . . . at least it's not 15 or 20 years ago.  During the '90s, more than 40% of companies had people work on Thanksgiving.  And in the early 2000s, it peaked at 48%.

So here's hoping you have a great Thanksgiving, working or not.

Thankfully yours,
Behka
