Breakthrough: When You Donate Blood, It Can Benefit Your Life
You know that I have spent several posts here on the website over the years talking to you about donating blood.
And there's another one coming up with the Community Blood Center on Monday, April 14th. It'll be from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church, which is 200 South Limit Avenue.
That's all well and good, but... what's in it for you? I've got you. Turns out, donating your blood will not only help someone else and save their life... it will make YOU healthier.
Think about it. For ages, the latest science told us that blood letting was the cure to multiple problems. It must have worked for someone, right, or they wouldn't have kept doing it. Of course it wouldn't help everything, but it did help some people.
But did it? It did! Just.... not everyone. And everything. But it might help you! Only, you know, you can go to a blood drive instead of the Barber of York.
According to Dr. Robert DeSimone, a director of transfusion medicine, there are medical benefits to the donator!
“If your hemoglobin is too high, blood donation helps to lower the viscosity of the blood, which has been associated with the formation of blood clots, heart attacks, and stroke.”
People who have hemochromatosis, for example, also benefit from donating blood regularly. Since their bodies produce too much blood, it has to be removed regularly to help with iron levels. Rather than have that blood thrown out, go and donate it instead!
Of course, it's also helpful to you because it's a free, mini health screening. You might give off early signs of high blood pressure, and they can see that well before you can. And, they'll screen you for any infectious diseases you might not have been aware of. When you donate, if you don't already know, you'll be told your blood type - which is helpful to know in case it comes up that you need a transfusion someday.

So make that appointment now at savealifenow.org/group and use group code SD. If you want to ask any other questions, just call Marge at 660-827-2200.
Donatingly yours,
Behka
