In a celebration that showcased student talents ranging from poetry reading to innovative dance and participation in a Jazz Combo, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Scholarship Banquet at the University of Central Missouri on Jan. 16 honored the civil rights leader’s legacy by presenting financial awards to deserving students and celebrating the arts.
The front doors will open at noon to the public for only $5, with kids 12 and under free. Back by popular demand is Bill Claycomb providing music from 2 until 6 p.m.
Activities throughout January, including the presentation of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Scholarships to University of Central Missouri students, the Community Praise and Worship Service, and Day of Service activities in Warrensburg and in Lee’s Summit, highlight the 2024 MLK Celebration.
Xi Beta Upsilon, chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, with the assistance of the Mayor and the City Council have announced the winners of the City’s 43rd annual outdoor Christmas Light Contest.
Ellison will receive $500 and moves on to the regional level of the statewide scholarship program, which is sponsored by the Missouri School Boards Association.
