Kids, as someone who has lived here for a long time, there is always a recurring joke repeated around Sedalia and the surrounding areas.

I don't have to tell it to you, you probably know it. That Sedalia has a church or a restaurant on every corner, right? Right. Well, that's pretty funny but...it's also a little true.

WE DO have a lot of restaurants, great ones. And not always do you need some new, groundbreaking idea to come sweeping into town, you know. Sometimes all you need is a good meal at a good price. I mean, look at the cynicism people had when I told you about El Rodeo coming to the old Hardee's west location. It seemed like a lot of comments were saying the same thing - "Do we need another Mexican place?" And now, people love it. It's tasty. What's not to love.

So anyway, when I saw this, I thought I'd share it with you - because it's not a new idea, but it IS a new idea in Sedalia. At least, as far as I know or recall. Take a look at this.

Don Jose Mexican Buffet is what it says, if you can't read it. Now admittedly, I was just driving by on Sunday morning. NJ and I were finishing up our painting on the infamous Damage it Myself project, and we needed a couple little last minute things. So I snapped a photo and thought, I'll figure it out later.

I know a buffet is not new to Sedalia. In my time, we had Ryan's, Joy Wok (remember that place? Where Tigerland is now?) Golden Corral, Fortune Palace, King Chef, and of course, the places we have now. But in my recollection, I've never heard of Sedalia having a Mexican buffet.

So color me intrigued.

I did some digging on the internet to see what places in Kansas City do, there are a few places up there. Basically the standards are things like menudo, chiles rellenos, barbacoa, pescado frito, picadillo, chicharrón en salsa verde. Some of which sounds new to me, some of it sounds delicious, and some of it I'm familiar with.

Knowing this location, it one of those things that's just going to be a "wait and see" situation. I know there are a LOT of dudes who work over in that area who want a quick meal. And, since some of the guys from El Espolon are setting this up, it could be very good. I mean, look at what happened to Clara's Sunrise Café. She was over there just putting out good food in a tiny spot, and then needed more room and moved out to the North 65 Café location. However, I don't know anything yet about when they're going to open, jobs, pricing, costs, and what they're going to have.

I just wanted to give you a heads up that it's coming. And me, I'm interested to see what's up with it!

Buffetingly yours,
Behka
