Alright everybody. I'll be honest here. I don't like camping.

It's uncomfortable, it's usually hot, there are bugs everywhere, and to be frank, I don't want to hide anything from a bear. I just don't want to have to have that conversation. Which is fine. Some of us are just Indoor People.

But there are several of you, Gentle Reader, who do enjoy going out there. That's why you're here, reading this, after all. Why, I don't know. Maybe you like torturing yourselves, I don't know. Or maybe there's something I'm not getting about the whole "sitting on a plastic chair in the woods getting bit by mosquitoes while drinking lukewarm beer" experience. So when I got an email from the Missouri State Parks about camping tips, I thought, I better share these!

MDC's Tips for The Best Camping

1.  Be Courteous About Other Campers.

Arrive and depart the campground on time.  Take note of quiet hours at the campground. Know the rules regarding fires and fire restrictions. Respect your camping neighbor’s space.  You know, don't be a jerk.  Leave the campsite looking better than before. You can read the exact rules here.

2.  Be Courteous of Wildlife (Especially With Food)

Dispose of your trash and recycle when possible. Always put all your food away so as not to attract unwanted visitors, such as wildlife. Respect wildlife. Leave wildlife alone. Never feed other animals or do damage to their homes.  Leave the campsite looking better than before.

3.  Be Prepared.

Pack a first aid kit. It's nice to have, even if you don't need it.  It's also easy to put one in the trunk and just forget about it.  Before you leave home, check the weather forecast.

Now if you're not sure where to go, you could try the locator tool.

Or, this guy seems to know a thing or two.

Me?  I'll be chilling indoor-style.   I got bit by enough fleas, ticks, chiggers, and whatever was out there last year.  I'm good to stay in this year.  But good luck to you!

Campingly yours,

Behka
