The next Pettis County Pachyderm meeting is at 12 p.m. Friday, May 5 at the Heckart Community Center, 1800 W. 3rd, in Community Room C.

Sedalia Fire Department Engineer and Missouri State Council of Firefighters Vice President Jeremy Pepin will be the featured speaker.

Pepin, who has previously worked with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on large-scale events and has previously been deployed as a member of FEMA and Task Force 1 for hurricane responses, will focus his discussion on train derailments and the actions first responders take in such situations. He will also be available for questions following his presentation.

Those attending also may purchase their lunch at the Heckart Community Center’s cafeteria or may feel free to bring their own meal. This week’s menu at the Heckart is taco salad with refried beans and stewed tomatoes along with a tortilla or tortilla chips. Your dessert options are either pears or chocolate chip cookies.
