‘First Thursday’ Event Returns July 3 to Downtown Sedalia
“First Thursday” will return to downtown Sedalia on July 3.
May and June’s events were canceled, leading some to believe the program was dropped altogether, but that is not the case.
“Contrary to rumors circulating in the community, Sedalia Main Street’s First Thursday series is not canceled altogether. Only the June 5 event was called off —a decision made more than a month ago to allow for internal transitions and program planning,” according to a press release issued by the City of Sedalia on Tuesday.
“This is just a short pause,” said Jessica Hoffman, Community Engagement Director. “The First Thursday series remains a priority for our downtown, and we’re excited to pick back up in July.”
May's event was canceled two days prior due to rain in the forecast, but the rain never materialized on that Thursday.
To help guide and strengthen downtown initiatives, the City has recently hired a new Planner/Downtown Specialist, who will begin later this month. This position will provide focused support for future downtown events and community development efforts.
The next First Thursday event is scheduled for July 3, bringing back local vendors, artists, musicians, and food trucks for a summer evening of shopping, dining, and community.
“We know there’s been some confusion, and we appreciate the community’s patience,” said Hoffman. “Downtown Sedalia is worth investing in—and that’s exactly what we’re doing.”
