From Haircuts to Highlighters: Diggz Kidz Has Your Back(pack)
Gentle Reader, about two years ago, we covered a little something here on our site about a local group called Diggz Kidz, which was started by Swanetta Marshall. Swanetta was nominated to be an Unsung Hero at the time.
Well, part of the reason she was nominated is because of her great work with kids. Every year, her group Diggz Kids gets together to get kids in need backpacks, school supplies, and hair cuts. But they also get a little treat, obviously.
And now, it's time to plan for the next DK event. It's going to happen at the Sedalia Housing Community Center, which is at 500 Welch Court.
"Diggz Kids" began back in 2016 as a way to honor Swanetta's son, who unfortunately died from gun violence just before his 18th birthday. Swanetta wanted to give back to the community right here in Sedalia, and honor her son's memory. She came up with "Diggz Kids" because 'Diggz' was a nickname Tre'Veon went by with family and friends.

So if your family needs a little extra help this school year, or you know someone who might, make a little note on the calendar. The event is coming up on Sunday, August 10th, which is during the Missouri State Fair. Which is the time of the year every Sedalia kid knows as "almost back to school time", ha!
Anyway, it'll be held from Noon to 3:00 p.m., so it won't disrupt plans if you were going to hit the grounds that day. If you're interested in the event, Diggz Kidz, or how you could help with the event (I'm sure they'll take reasonable donations), you can always contact Swanetta at 573-356-6208 or you can call Veronica at 660-221-3250.
See, plenty of time to plan ahead. It sounds like it'll be a lot of fun for the kiddos!
Kiddingly yours,
Behka
