How I Almost Single-Handedly Defeated the Harlem Globetrotters
The Harlem Globetrotters are coming to Kansas City on Jan. 26, and we are giving you a chance to win a family 4-pack of tickets.
A few years ago, I had a chance to play for the Washington Generals against the Harlem Globetrotters, and yes, I scored against them. It was a great play, I wheeled and dealed and penetrated and cut and swerved and shot a 3 and got drilled, went to the free throw line and connected. I think the Generals kind of were a little jealous of my balling skills and they pulled me out. Or maybe it was because I looked like I was going to pass out.
Seriously, it was a thrill of a lifetime playing with them, the whole experience, from the locker room until the end of the game. Like most people my age, I grew up watching Medowlark and Curly, the basketball on a string, the water in the bucket, and it made me laugh every time I saw it. But I never thought I'd get the chance to be on the floor with them and to play.
To be honest with you, I was a nervous wreck. You don't want to make a fool of yourself, but you know that's why they asked you to play. What a great experience, and they were kind enough to let my daughter be a ball girl They were also kind enough to give me the jersey I wore and autographed it.
