Well, I guess I didn't HAVE to.

But, I'll tell you the story, and you can tell me what you think I should have done or said, or if I'm in the clear.

The Story of The Biscuits

So I was at the Food Library (not gonna name the grocery store, but it was in Sedalia), minding my own, buyin' some stuff, you know.  Wondering if I should get mild cheddar cheese or sharp cheddar cheese, stuff like that.

Anyway, I come up to the the section of the store with the chilled items, and I had intended on buying some canned biscuits.  I myself am not a fan of this product, but NJ loves em and they're nostalgic to him, so I  buy it and just let him eat 'em.

So I grab a can, and I turn to head on my way, when an older man gets my attention.  He's next to me, and he grumbles a little under his breath.  Here's how the conversation went.

Him:  Grumble grumble.

Me:  I'm sorry?

Him:  Oh, nothing, dear. I just wanted a can of biscuits too.

Note: In the moment, I didn't see it, but I see now that he probably wanted me to just hand him the tube I had in my hand and grab another one.  However.... they weren't out.  There were other ones on the shelf, so that didn't occur to me til later.

Me:  Oh! Well, most of this whole shelf is the same, if that's any consolation.

Him:  What?

Me:  *Pulls a croissant tube off the shelf* See? Enriched flour, water, vegetable shortening, sugar, and baking powder.  Now look at this biscuit one. Enriched flour, water, oil, sugar, baking powder.... they're basically the same thing, just cut into different shapes.

Him:  *Stares, just a little too long*  Nobody likes a smart mouth.

And....then he just walked away?

I guess he didn't know  that........... I didn't think I was a smart mouth?  But then I guess to some people, any talking is "smart"?  I don't know. I guess I could have just given him the one I had, but... there were others on the shelf he could have grabbed on his own. And is it really my fault this guy never looked at the ingredients? They really aren't that different, they're just sometimes seasoned or shaped differently. Is it so bad to demonstrate knowledge? What do you think?   I know I'm not wrong about the product, but....  what would you have done?

Doughingly yours,
Behka
