‘Dinosaur Dimensions’ Entertains, Educates Youngsters About Prehistoric Times
Dozens of kids were entertained and informed by Dinosaur Dimensions last Wednesday at Boonslick Regional Library, 219 W. 3rd Street.
The event was designed to get young readers to sign up for the library’s summer reading program, according to Joni Spalding, children’s librarian for Boonslick.
The theme this year for the two-month reading program is "Unearth a Story," Spalding said, adding that she counted close to one hundred kids attending the program, which was held outside on the east parking lot of the library.
Dinosaur Dimensions is a traveling puppet show that also presented the program at Cole Camp, Warsaw and Boonville last week.
“This year we’re signing up the kids on Beanstack, which is on the computer ... and it counts if they read each day. When they read four days, they get a ticket, or they can come in a get a prize for every four days of reading. We like for them to read about 20 minutes, and they can read lots more than that, if they want to,” Spalding said.
She added that the kids can sign up anytime during the summer program to join in the fun.
“We have programs every day of the week, lots of programs for kids ages 6-11, and some teen programs for those 12 – 18. And we even have some for our ‘littles’ which we have Storytime on Thursdays and a play group on Fridays, the children’s librarian said.

“We are doing so many fun things. We are going to make a volcano that erupts and we’re going to have dinosaur eggs that they can break into and find things inside, and we’re going to have a dinosaur dig where they dig out bones and put them together,” Spalding said, adding that kids don’t need a library card to participate in the summer program.
While Spalding was being interviewed, Curt Stetz from Wisconsin was busy entertaining the kids on a hot summery day with four very different types of dinosaur puppets. At the conclusion of the program, he invited the eager kids to line up for photos with the baby dinosaur.
