According to an article posted on Fast Company, a popular fabric and craft store mired in bankruptcy proceedings has told the court that it wants to close many underperforming stores as part of its bankruptcy proceeding.

According to Fast CompanyJoAnn, which filed for Chapter 11 protection for the second time last month, initially sought to keep operating its approximately 800 stores. Yet, according to the Fast Company article, discussions with possible buyers helped JoAnn's management identify a number of underperforming stores that they want to close to cut costs. Additionally, these stores probably wouldn't be part of any sale, which keeps the business an ongoing concern.

A JoAnn spokesperson, Amanda Hayes, told Fast Company, “As part of the ongoing Chapter 11 process and our efforts to maximize the value of the business, JOANN has filed a motion seeking court authority to begin closing approximately 500 stores across the nation."

Some states will see significant closures, like California, Florida, Illinois, and Michigan, which will be hit the hardest. That said, Missouri is not immune to the closures. The company lists seven stores throughout Missouri that will close. Closing stores are as follows:

  • 3600 Country Club Dr Spc 408, Jefferson City, 65109
  • 3810 Crackerneck Road, Independence, 64055
  • 1153 North Avenue, Belton, 64012
  • 603 N Belt Highway, Saint Joesph, 64506
  • 15355 Manchester Road, Ballwin, 63011
  • 101 Twin City Mall, Crystal City, 63019
  • 1976 Phoenix Center Drive, Washington 63090
