Early Christmas Miracle: Gas Prices In Missouri Now Falling
Both major gasoline tracking websites, GasBuddy and AAA Gas Prices, report that many Americans are seeing gas prices dip below $3.00 for the first time since May 2021. Will prices in Missouri continue to drop through the holidays?
On Monday, GasBuddy announced that the national average gas price had fallen below $3.00 per gallon for the first time since May 10, 2021. Meanwhile, on Thursday, AAA Gas Prices exclaimed that gas prices had plunged to a three-year low. One thing is clear: Americans are finally seeing some relief at the gas pump.
GasBuddy's article from Monday, December 2, 2024, pegged the current national average price for gas at $2.99 a gallon. In contrast, AAA Gas Prices has the national average price for gas set at $3.02 a gallon. Regardless of which numbers you look at, we've been paying less than $3.00 in Missouri, at least in West Central Missouri, for a while.
According to AAA Gas Prices, Missouri's current average gas price is $2.69 a gallon. AAA spokesperson Andrew Gross says, "32 states already have an average below or well below $3. Hockley County, Texas appears to have the lowest county average, at $2.30.”
So, how long will these lower gas prices stick around? Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, says, "We’re likely to enjoy these prices on and off over the holidays, and our early projection for 2025 is that we could see the national average stick around the $3 per gallon level through winter and then again perhaps in late 2025. I’m optimistic that the good news at the pump will continue into 2025, though we have yet to fully see how a shift in administration could impact prices.”
