This Game Will Cost Missouri Lottery Players More Next Year
If you're one of those folks trying to win big money, there's a good chance you'll pay a little more when you purchase your lottery tickets next year. Why? One of Missouri Lottery's big payoff games is getting a makeover, and part of that makeover is a new, more expensive ticket price.
I'm talking about Mega Millions, one of the multi-state lottery games the Missouri Lottery participates in. The folks behind Mega Millions say the game will get MEGA enhancements in April next year. So what changes can players expect?
- Improved odds to win the jackpot
- Bigger jackpots more frequently
- Larger starting jackpots
- Faster growing jackpots
- A built-in multiplier on every play, automatically improving every non-jackpot win by 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X, or 10X - up to $10 million for matching the five white balls.
- There are no breakeven prizes; when you win, you'll always win more than the ticket cost.
When the revamped Mega Millions game launches in April 2025, a ticket will rise from $2 to $5. This is only the second price increase since the first ticket was sold more than 20 years ago and the first change since the current game matrix was adopted in 2017.
In a news release, Joshua Johnston, Lead Director of the Mega Millions Consortium, said, “We expect more billion-dollar jackpots than ever before, meaning creating more billionaires and many more millionaires as the jackpots climb. Plus, this game will continue the important legacy of supporting great causes everywhere Mega Millions is played.”
Since its launch in 2002, Mega Millions has produced six winners of billion-dollar jackpots. Since the last change in 2017, more than 1,200 have become millionaires. Mega Millions is a national game with tickets sold in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings are conducted at 10:00 PM Central Time on Tuesdays and Fridays in Atlanta, Georgia.
