Does it make me a bad person that I chuckled a little bit when I saw this? A Missouri mansion has been chosen as the most beautiful in the state. What they don't know is that it's also absolutely very haunted.

I would estimate that Reader's Digest remains one of the most respected publications in the world. My dad kept a slew of them in the...ahem...place where the toilet was so I'm very familiar with how long that magazine has been around. They've just named the most beautiful mansions in each state and their choice for Missouri is an interesting one.

It's the Vaile Mansion in Independence, Missouri. They're not wrong about the fact that's it's a historical and aesthetically-pleasing place. They mention the mansion's "31 rooms, nine marble fireplaces, elaborately painted ceilings, and a 48,000-gallon wine cellar", but fail to recognize that many of its past residents allegedly have never moved on from the home. Even the official Independence, Missouri visitor's center adds "haunted" to the description.

To be sure, the character that remains in this Missouri mansion is impeccable. Every room looks like it stepped out of a Victorian era time machine.
