Missouri Officials: Mow This Poisonous Plant Today
Missouri officials are warning that there's a poisonous plant that is in the peak of its growing season that needs to be cut down now before it kills animals and livestock.
The University of Missouri Extension just shared this warning on their Facebook page this week. It's about a dastardly plant that is bad news especially if you have pets and/or livestock.
The University of Missouri Extension Service also shared a press release detailing how to be handle poison hemlock and its effects. They warn that if you didn't do preparation spraying against it, the next best thing you can do now is to mow it down to the ground. They say that they rarely see it spread in pastures that are mowed frequently.
What can poison hemlock do to animals?
If a farm animal or pet eats poison hemlock, it can cause suffocation and paralysis which can cause death within just hours. They even provide a helpful guide to help you identify what is poison hemlock and what is not. Time to get the mowers out if you haven't already. Poison hemlock can spread quickly and it's already being spotted in many fields. Best that you get to it before your animals do or they'll face the consequences.
