Missouri State Fair Gets International Flair With Cirque Zuma Zuma
Cirque Zuma Zuma is coming to the Missouri State Fair this summer bringing a little bit of international flair to our State's great summer celebration. If you've ever enjoyed Cirque du Soleil, you're going to have to visit the Touchstone Energy Stage and check out Cirque Zuma Zuma.
The name makes one think of Cirque du Soleil, so a comparison seems to be inevitable. According to their website, Cirque Zuma Zuma is part high-energy dance act, part Cirque du Soleil, part Harlem Globetrotters, and is fast-paced and full of acrobatic ingenuity.
Since I haven't experienced Cirque Zuma Zuma, I can't really tell you what it's like. I can however share their latest promo video.
Cirque Zuma Zuma has performed on "America's Got Talent" and audiences and critics in Europe and Africa have been wowed by this exhilarating African Cirque-style show.
Cirque Zuma Zuma will be performing three shows a day on the Touchstone Energy Stage at the Missouri State Fair during its first week.
Some of the other interesting acts performing at this year's Missouri State Fair include the following:
ShenaniGuns. In case you're wondering it's a wacky wild west show that'll be on the fairgrounds. Here's the plot from the Missouri State Fair website, "Sheriff Hoppalong Casually and Deputy Leon Jones strap on big iron and face off against dimwit desperadoes Bad Bob and bumbling baby brother Bubba Bob." ShenaniGuns will be performing on the fairgrounds every day during the fair.
The Chicago Honey Bear Dancers. NFL fans of a certain age will remember when the Honey Bears were the Chicago Bears cheerleading squad. That was a long time ago, and The Chicago Honey Bear Dancers have nothing to do with the football team or cheerleading.
Decades ago, the dancers and singers producer Greg Schwartz found for his show "I Love Dancing" were the elite dancers on the Bears cheerleading squad. When the team disbanded the cheerleading squad and let the trademark lapse, Schwartz, took the name for his dance company. According to the Missouri State Fair, The Chicago Honey Bear Dancers will "Perform a SPECTACULAR high-energy Song & Dance Show featuring a superstar singer from American Idol and popular hits from the 1950s to today." They'll do three shows a day on the Kids Stage throughout the fair.
Returning to the fair this summer will be Hendrick's Racing Pigs, Blacksmith Demonstrations, and of course my favorite fair mascot of all time, BARTholomule. There's no word on whether or not he'll do a dance-off with me this year.
