Spring isn't here yet, but a good sign that it's not that far away is trout season in Missouri that is now only days away. There are some updated things you need to know if you're about to grab your rod and reel and head to the waters looking for these big fish.

I must admit that this one snuck up on me. I saw the Missouri Department of Conservation mention that catch and keep trout season starts in Missouri on March 1. Yay. Here are a few things you need to know.

  • Trout season beginning March 1 includes Missouri's 4 trout parks: Bennett Spring State Park near Lebanon, Montauk State Park near Licking, Roaring River State Park near Cassville, and Maramec Spring Park near St. James.
  • There will be approximately 20,000 trout stocked in the 4 Missouri trout parks for opening day.
  • The daily limit is 4 trout and possession of 8 for all Missouri trout parks.
  • You need a daily trout tag. The cost of a daily trout tag is $5 for adults and $3 for those 15-years-old and younger and you can get these in the Missouri trout parks.
  • You also need a regular fishing permit

Missouri has many other epic places to find trout outside of the official trout parks. You can check out the many trout streams around the state through the Missouri Department of Conservation website.
