Everyone, the holidays will be here before you know it. And with the holidays, of course we have a lot of fun.

We have people over, we eat a lot of food, and kids are everywhere.  And in the hustle and bustle of all that, you can lose sight of a person.  Or you can get a tad bit careless when it comes to, I don't know, checking for that last turkey bone before you took a bite.  Or, maybe you know Grandpa's heart isn't what it used to be, and he doesn't want to make a big deal of it at dinner. Or maybe you'll be busy with the green bean casserole, and you didn't see that Aunty Millie's obnoxious little brat is trying to eat every Lego he sees instead of, you know, food.

No really, to get serious for a second, this is something I would encourage everyone to check out.  I just just imagine horror scenarios where someone has a heart attack at the dinner table, in an instance where seconds count.   If you know CPR or what to do in those instances, you can turn what could be a terrible, traumatizing experience into something that could bring you as a family closer.

Bothwell Regional Health Center will offer Community CPR/AED and First Aid courses on Saturday, December 14th in the Bothwell Education Center at 600 E. 14th Street.

The CPR/AED class is from 8 am to 12:30 pm. The course teaches participants how to provide CPR to an adult, child or infant and how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) for adults and children. The AED is that thing you see in movies all the time, where someone yells, "CLEAR!" and then does a thing.  Well, this will teach you how to actually use it to help someone instead of, you know, an Ernest joke.

People may also sign up for a First Aid course for adults and children from 12:30 to 3:30 pm.  They have all types of people who take it.  Sometimes, it's job related, and sometimes it's just families getting together to make sure everyone is on the same page.  This would also be great if you're worried about your kid getting out there in the workforce during the break.  Special classes can be arranged for large groups.

The fee for each class is $45 or $60 for both classes. Registration is due by December 4th, and payment is required with registration. For more information or to register, contact Bothwell Education Center at classes@brhc.org or call 660-827-9516. It could be a class that could save the life of someone you love.

Classily yours,
Behka
