Over the next few weeks, I'm going to write some postss about just how big and important the Roots N Blues N BBQ Festival in Columbia is, and what role it has played in live music here in Sedalia.

Let's start with Friday night (August 24), when Jason Vivone and the Billy Bats will be at Dickie Doo.  The first time I saw Jason he had just won Missouri's King of the Roots Competition and was opening up at the RBBQ Festival.  Quite honestly we were blown away by the performance, so after the show we immediately went up to him and standing in the rain, in a heavy downpour...oops, sorry, slipped into Foreigner for a minute.., a wonderful friendship started.  He's been playing around here ever since, and if you haven't seen him, that's probably a error in judgement. We have also brought Megan Boyer Band to town after seeing her there, and we have been in talks with others.

Secondly, we are a week away from Ana Popovic. I saw her the same weekend we met Jason.  Let's put this to rest: yes, she is gorgeous, and yes, I kid about that all the time on the air, but more importantly, she is one of the most talented people I have ever seen.  If it was only about looks, I'd buy all the Pamela Anderson CDs I could.  It's about talent, and Ana is unbelievable.  We are very very lucky to have her come to Sedalia.

That same night I saw Robert Randolph perform.  It was probably the best weekend of music that I've ever seen, and trust me folks, I've seen a lot of live music.

There are only a few tickets left to see Ana Popovic at the Doo, so get them, go see her and be amazed.  Then get online and go to rootsnbluesnbbq.com to see the linup for the RBBQ Festival and get your tickets for that weekend, you won't be disappointed.

I will be writing stories about the artists appearing in Columbia at this year's festival, and I can't wait to get out there.  Thank you to Betsy Ferris at the festival, and thank you to Rick Hunt at Dickie Doo for listening to me and bringing these artist to Sedalia.
