Amazing Food and Fun Await At Sedalia’s Farmers’ Market
Sedalia area residents will be able to get amazing local produce, fresh baked goods, sustainably raised meat, fresh-cut flowers, and handmade artisanal products as The Sedalia Area Farmers' Market begins its sixteenth season on Friday, May 3, 2024.
Teresa Fortune, president of the Sedalia Area Farmers' Market says, “We are looking forward to going into our sixteenth year. We invite everyone to come out to meet our hard-working vendors and learn what they have to offer to the community.”
The Sedalia Area Farmers' Market is the sole producer-only market in Pettis County. All vendors grow or make what they sell at the market. Besides being a point of pride in what makes the market special, it also means customers get the best quality food and goods, and the freshest food available.
Amber Pena says the SAFM has a great mix of returning vendors and exciting new vendors joining the market this year. Additionally, to help customers find new products the SAFM will have free samples at their Grand Sample Station this year on Tuesdays during the Farmers' Market.
Continuing this season is the SNAP/EBT matching season. SNAP customers can receive up to $25 in free matching funds for vegetables, fruits, and plants that grow food through the Double Up Food Bucks program.
The Sedalia Area Farmers' Market opens its sixteenth season on Friday, May 3, from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM at the Nucor Pavillion on the Missouri State Fairgrounds. On opening day customers can expect to see produce like lettuce, kale, arugula, Swiss chard, spinach, herbs, green onions, carrots, rhubarb, radishes, microgreens and cut flowers.
There will also be fresh baked goods, free-range eggs, pork, beef, chicken, lamb, kettle corn, coffee, wine reduction sauces, and vegetable plants. Opening day is also an "Artisan First Friday" so several craft vendors will be on hand selling charcuterie boards, gemstone jewelry, watercolor kits and prints, hand-painted journals, and more.
Doug Kellis will be providing the music on opening day and in the Little Sprouts area kids will learn about the "Tree of Life" and receive a tree sapling to plant at home. The Little Sprouts program is being supported by Show-Me Master Gardeners. Additionally, Nucor Sedalia will be giving out free tree saplings to market customers while supplies last, so you don't have to be a Little Sprout to plant a tree!
The Sedalia Area Farmers' Market is open from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM CDT on Tuesdays and Fridays from May through Labor Day, then Fridays only after Labor Day through October.
